Fourth of July Mani!

Hi, everyone! I’m popping in really quick to show off my July 4th mani this year!

Tried to capture the holo of Indie Go and Very Ornamental, but no dice...they have a pretty decent holo flare in person, promise!

I almost used my fave polish, Mirrorball, to keep all the polishes holo, but at the last minute decided to use My Boyfriend Scales Walls. MBSW is a really great polish – it’s white with a drop of gray and is opaque and non-streaky in two easy coats, which is amazing for a white polish!

For my ring finger I used some star nail decals from What’s Up Nails over Indie Go, and on my middle I (painstakingly) placed stripe decals over MBSW then painted Very Ornamental over top to get the ‘Merica stripes. I like this mani way better than my one from last year, although that one was super last-minute. I’m well-documented as not being a fan of red, but I actually like this mostly-red mani because I think it’s so freaking cute!

The star decals weren't totally stuck down in a few places so they didn't come out perfect, but I kinda like how they look a little haphazard, almost like they were handprinted on.

Thanks for reading, and a happy Independence Day to all my fellow Americans! I hope you have a fun and safe holiday – A x

I used this exact color combination two years ago in this mani, and I still love it! There’s nothing more fun than having a candy-coated rainbow on your tips.

This took a little bit of time – a few of the colors required three coats (Blue-Ming, Sweet Hook), then I had to wait for top coat to dry, as well, and then it took some time to get all the zigzag/chevron decals to evenly spaced – but the end result is so worth it. I think this is cute without being too cutesy, you know what I mean?

Here's a better pic of the thumb.

My mom and sister said this looks like Easter eggs, which I didn’t notice but they totally do! I kinda don’t want to take this off, I love it so much! 😍

Nail Quickies: Pink and Blue

Hello, friends! I wasn’t sure if I was going to post this, since my nails are still too short for my liking and my cuticles refuse to look good, but what the heck? I’ve been a little bored with polish lately and just doing one color, so I tried to mix things up a little with this mani.

So…I didn’t end up loving this look. The decals I used on my middle finger weren’t spaced properly enough (I hate that little part at my cuticle and the zig zag nearest my tip is too big compared to the others) and the dry brush I did on my pinkie didn’t turn out as cool as I would’ve liked, but I still really like this color combo.

The pink, Orly’s Risky Behavior, is more blue-toned/magenta in person, but it kept coming out very hot pink in my photos. It’s very vibrant and pretty, though! I saw it on sale for 97 cents at Ulta and couldn’t resist. The formula was great, too – two easy coats.

I actually really love how my thumb turned out – I guess using a metallic as one of the brush strokes looks way better than using it as a base? I felt like the colors didn’t really pop on my pinkie, but it looks great on my thumb. Ah well, lesson learned!

Summery Pink and Green

Hi everyone! It feels like I just used the Moroccan decals from What’s Up Nails, but I was dying to use them again, and I used a really fun color combo that resulted in a mani that I didn’t want to take off (and surprisingly lasted almost a week!).

I haven’t bought very many mainstream nail polishes lately…they just aren’t really grabbing me. Or, if I like a color, I don’t like it enough to actually buy it. But late last year I found Be More Pacific and another color from that 2014 Off Shore collection (Float On, which I got just for the name) super cheap on eBay, so I purchased them. This is the first time I’ve worn Be More Pacific and ugh the formula is terrible, y’all! This was three coats on most nails (four on one or two) because it was super streaky, so frustrating. But the color….oh man, do I love the color! The photos here aren’t accurate – no matter what I did, I couldn’t get the true pale lime green hue to come out, so it looks more blue-toned/minty but it’s definitely yellow-toned in person. I love these kinds of greens, so this guy stays in my collection despite the shitty formula.

I used these Moroccan decals not too long ago, but I couldn’t resist throwing them on again because I love them! All-over decal designs like this are hard – you have to peel them off quickly but not too quickly, lest the polish smear and ruin the crisp lines of the design, and while one or two of these guys didn’t turn out perfectly, for the most part these look really great! Since the length of my nail means I only use up a little over half of one decal, I cut off a piece with no residual polish and applied them to my pinkie, pointer, and thumb cuticles to vary the look a little. I used Color Club’s Warhol to go over the decals because I thought the super saturated magenta would look great with BMP’s light green, and I think is looks so fun and summery!

Despite the 3 coats of BMP, two coats of top coat (once to seal BMP before the decal and again to top the whole look), and one thick coat of Warhol, this surprisingly lasted almost the entire week on my nails! This is day 4, I think, and I’ve only got one little chip on my thumb. Sorcery! Usually when I have lots of layers of polish like that it chips instantly, so this is crazy wear time.

I’ve been craving nothing but blues lately, so I was trying to break out of that with this mani. But now I’m wanting to put another blue back on! Hmmmm must troll Pinterest for more color ideas…by the way, due to a weird issue, I can’t log into my original Fancy Finger Guns Pinterest account, so I created a new one: https://www.pinterest.com/fancy_fg/. I’m going to be going through my polish collection this weekend and re-organizing and purging, which means I’ll be updating the boards that have swatches of colors I own sorted by brand, so be sure to check that out next week! Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great weekend. See you next time – A x

Green and Magenta Moroccan-Inspired

Hello there! Sorry for the delay in posting – I thought this had gone up already! Today I’ve got a really great color combo that I absolutely love.

1.21.16 Fancy Finger Guns bottles

I’ve used Color Club’s Right On before on this blog, and it became such a favorite after I used it that it’s been on my toes almost the entire time since. I just love this color – it doesn’t look like anything out of ordinary in photos, but it’s so bright and saturated and FUN that I can’t help but want to reach for it whenever I don’t know what to do to my nails. I love the color combo of hot pink or purple and green, so I paired it with First Timer, which I remembered being little softer for some reason (probably because it looks a little muted in the bottle), but it’s a bright, spring-y green that I think looks fantastic with Right On.

I am still loving my What’s Up Nails decals that I got on sale during Black Friday – I got five or six different ones, and these might be my favorite. I realized after I painted over it that I should’ve had the design going off my nail and not stopped it right at my tip – it made the tips just silver, which looks weird, but at least I learned for next time! I wanted a base color that popped under the magenta and green, so I used one coat of No Place Like Chrome. If you need some metallics, these Essie “Mirror Finish” polishes are great – I also have Good As Gold and Copper Penny (which is actually a lovely rose-gold), and they’re all opaque and reflective as hell. However, when you’re going to peel a decal off these kind of polishes, you might have some issues – even with a fully dried layer of top coat on NPLC, it still pulled up a bit when I took the first decal off. Luckily, I was able to smooth the polish back into place and sort of re-stick it down with top coat.

My nails were a little longer here - I attempted to grow them out, but it annoyed me too much, but I filed them down a little TOO much so now I"m trying to get them back to a nice length. Whoops!

I’ve had Urban Outfitter’s Sea Dust for a looooooooong time but I don’t think I’ve ever featured it before. It’s a dupe for Deborah Lippmann’s Mermaid’s Dream at a much cheaper price point – UO polishes are usually 2 for $8, and DLs retail for about $20 each. I only used one coat over First Timer – it’s pretty opaque, or it seemed so over a similarly colored base, anyway! It’s a really lovely polish – fine sea foam glitter with slightly larger aqua glitter pieces sprinkled throughout. Very pretty and definitely very mermaid-y! I thought it was a nice accent color to go with First Timer and Right On.

It doesn't look like much in photos, but Sea Dust is really pretty!
