Halloween 2016 Nails #2 – Chic Candy Corn

Hello, friends! I wanted to do something with candy corn colors but not the traditional candy corn look, and this is what I came up with!

I went with slightly more muted colors, which feels very chic and fall. I switched up where each color went on every nail, giving it a fun look! East End and Brick Lane are from the butter LONDON Brick Lane holiday polish collection from two years ago that I got for Christmas, and they’re two of my favorite colors ever. I’ve really become a fan of warm mustard-y, marigold-y yellows in the past year, and East End is suuuuuuch a good one! Brick Lane is a rusty, pumpkin-y orange with a hidden bright orange shimmer that only comes out in direct light, but it’s gorgeous. I really wish they were full-sized – they’re only 0.2 fl oz, so they are tiny – because I feel like I have to use them really sparingly, which is hard because they’re such gorgeous fall colors! The cream is obvi my fave cream, OPI’s My Vampire Is Buff.

I used washi tape to tape off angles at the tips after my base colors had dried, then once those were painted, top-coated, and dried, I used more washi tape for angles the other way. I love how this looks, and despite putting on multiple players of top coat, it really didn’t take very long.

Phew, it’s been a long week, y’all! I’m glad it’s finally over, and I’m hoping to do a few more Halloween manis this weekend. I’m not sure I’ll quite make it to 13 like last year, but I’d like to so I’ll try my best! Thanks for reading, see you next time – A x

July Nail Art Challenge #3: Splatter!

Is there any nail art that’s more fun than a splatter?

I really like this color combo – the neons really pop over the white base, and for some reason a little black always helps color combinations come together, I think.

I can never figure out how to pose with both hands in the same shot.

My right hand actually came out way better than my left, but MAN is it awkward to pose my right hand and take photos with my left!

I forgot how incredibly messy splatter manis are. I put two plastic bags down on my table to catch all the polish splatter and one or two drops still got on my phone :/ Thank God for screen covers!

The blue stuff around my nails is my liquid latex, which helps with clean up - you just peel off the latex instead of painstakingly cleaning up around the nail with a tiny brush or Q-tip.

I actually really loved the thumbs of each hand, too!

One more photo because I thought it was really cool – I went out this weekend and the neon sign near the balcony we were on made my nails glow awesomely because of the blue light.

Cobalt + Neon Yellow

Another quick little post here! I did these nails this past weekend, when temps were almost 90 here in LA. Yes, 90 degrees in February. Sigh. I’m not usually big on dark nail colors in general, but especially when it’s hot outside, I can’t bear to have anything besides bright hues on my fingertips, so I pulled out some of my favorites for this easy look.

I loooove Baker Street – the polish made famous by Beyonce a few years ago – but this polish chips on me sometimes within hours. The only other polish I have by Nails Inc is a glitter, so I don’t know if it’s the general Nails Inc formula or just Baker Street itself, but it’s very disappointing. The color is so lovely I can’t really complain, though! This is two easy coats (that chipped within a day:().

I used butter LONDON’s Cotton Buds and my dotting tools to make three graduated dots coming down from my cuticle. Once those had dried, I used the dotting tools to apply Essie’s In The Limelight on top. I really love how cobalt and neon yellow look together – I can’t remember where I first saw it, but it’s one of my favorite color combinations!

I know it sounds like I’m rubbing these LA temps while the rest of the country is drowning in snow, but trust, I am not enjoying it. Please send some chilly thoughts my way, and I’ll send some way-too-hot-for-winter vibes to you, too! Thanks for reading! See you next time – A x

Halloween Mani #3: Candy Corn

Earlier this week when I was writing this, it was chilly and rainy outside, I had my Autumn candle from Bath & Bodyworks filling the room with a gorgeous apple/pine/spice scent, and basically everything was cozy and wonderful and it felt like fall was finally here…

…cut to today, when it’s 100 degrees and temps are predicted to be in the 90s for the next week. WHY, GOD? I hope some nice fall weather arrives before too much longer or I’m gonna go crazy. Sigh. Anyway, let’s get to today’s Halloween mani:

Forgot to include butter LONDON's Cotton Buds, my white base.

Forgot to include butter LONDON’s Cotton Buds, my white base.

I used this tutorial from @nailsbycambria because the last time I did candy corn nails, a few years ago, it was a total mess – my lines weren’t crisp, my polish looked chunky from to many layers, ugh. This was much easier, although it still took a little maneuvering to get each stripe of color the same size. I decided to use a brighter orange because it was more fun, but after applying all my polishes I realized that unfortunately Jinx is more coral than orange like I’d thought, so it bothers me a little that the colors aren’t closer, but whatevs.

Oh man, I really love my Zoya texture polishes – I do get a little tip wear, but otherwise, those suckers don’t budge for days! Even my white base of butter LONDON’s Cotton Buds didn’t immediately chip, which is something of a miracle. This mani was so fun – I got a lot of delighted compliments on it (I guess people really love candy corn?) and I kinda wanted to keep it on for longer but with 13 manicures to get through this month, I really need to hustle through them all.

Sorry about that little nick on my middle finger - I keep forgetting to cover it up in my pics!

I’m very excited for this weekend – it’s kicking off my Halloween weekends for the rest of the month! This weekend I’m going to see Hocus Pocus at Disney’s El Capitan theater, and I reeeeeeeally hope they’ll have some sort of display or something for it – they often have costumes, props, sketches, etc., from the movies they play on display downstairs, and I’d love to see, say, booooooook! in person. I’ll be obnoxious and take lots of photos I’ll put up next post. Thank you for reading! See you next time – A x

Nail Quickies: Yellow and Blue Nails

Hi everyone! How’s your week starting off? I’m trying to post more this month, so today I’ve got a simple mani I did a few weeks ago.

I forgot to take a polish pic, oops!

I forgot to take a polish bottle pic, oops!

I don’t think I’ve ever used this color combo before, but I really like it! Yellow and blue reminds me of French provincial style and that can be a little cutesy (sometimes almost verging on shabby chic, which I am not a fan of), so I didn’t want to do anything to frou frou and kept it simple with a dash of sparkle and a pop of polka dots.

8.10.15 curled in pool

The yellow is Nicole By OPI’s Lemon Lolly, and it’s basically the same as the OPI’s mini You’re So Flippy Floppy except it’s a normal-sized bottle and it’s super sparkly. Yasssssssss! (I love me a yellow texture polish – this is now my third one!) The royal blue is everyone’s favorite, Nails Inc’s Baker Street, and the light blue is Essie’s Bikini So Teeny, which I’m having a love affair with right now despite its less-than-stella formula.

I couldn’t really get a good pic of how sparkly Lemon Lolly is, but trust, it’s gorgeous. If you like yellow and/or texture polishes, I got it a few weeks ago at Marshall’s, so it’s worth going by your local store to see if they have one you can scoop up. Overall, though, this was such a cute and easy mani, even if Baker Street chipped on me almost immediately. Perfect for a lazy Saturday in the pool, anyway!
